What is the future for Centrelink Career Information Centres?

30 June 2010, 10:11am

Union members from each region have contacted your union with reports that Centrelink are planning major changes to the work that CIC staff do. Centrelink have not informed staff of their plans for CICs.

However, many areas are already seeing changes to their duties. What will all of these changes mean for CIC workers jobs, pay and working conditions?

Where are you in the process?

When Centrelink proposes changes that affect you and your work, you have a right to insist on consultation at the workplace level before the change is implemented. Consultation includes providing you and your union with information, time, and opportunity to influence the decision-making process.

Four simple steps for any consultation process on change

  1. Discuss the reasons and need for change, including information, with you and your union
  2. Involve you and your union in decision-making by allowing input on the change proposals
  3. Take all your feedback into account and develop support on the proposed change
  4. Once a decision is made, continue consultation with you and your union on the changes

Have your say, it’s important

Your union representatives will be taking your issues up with Centrelink National Management to get the information we need to ensure your rights, pay and conditions are respected; and to make sure you have a voice in this process. Please download and fill in the short survey attached at right so that we have a better understanding of the issues you would like addressed.

Your union membership is important

All employees have a right to influence management decisions that affect them. With your membership, and by working together as members, we have the strength to ensure that your rights are respected. To join simply click here or call 1300 137 636.
