MRT/RRT members endorse a no vote

1 December 2011, 9:39am

83% of CPSU members have taken part in a snap poll to determine what direction your bargaining reps should take. Thank you to everyone who voted.

93% of members who voted have endorsed the CPSU to run a No Vote on the agreement, as long as the cuts to conditions remain. This is the first time in the history of the MRT-RRT that we have run such a vote.

Your bargaining reps have been advised by Management that they are happy with the payrise they have offered and believe that further negotiations would be futile. It has been put to Management from the beginning of these negotiations that no other agency has attacked conditions to such an extent and other agencies sought exemption earlier in the process to keep conditions where they were above the APSC bargaining framework, for example the tribunals’ 20 days personal leave. Is it a coincidence that what management say they can afford is what the APSC bargaining framework has told them they should offer?

CPSU does believe that further negotiations are necessary to secure your conditions and have put this request to management. However, you should be prepared for Management to put the agreement out to a staff vote in the hope that you will back down. We will be advising Management of your strong intention and commitment to voting No and encouraging all staff to do the same. A strong No Vote will send a very clear message to Management about what you think of their offer. They don’t believe how serious CPSU members are.

What can you do now?

  1. Thursday December 8 - Wear Red to Work Day. This is the date your new agreement should have taken effect, let’s show management you want them to listen and get back to negotiations.

  2. Get talking, let everyone know that you will be voting no and why

  3. Join CPSU. Bargaining reps are doing an amazing job. More people have been joining as they have seen how management has been bargaining; joining now not only makes sure you are truly represented in bargaining but strengthens the position your bargaining reps take to the table. Show your colleagues how much you support them. It’s easy to join  Talk to your workplace delegate, join online or call 1300 137 636.
