Change ahead at DEEWR! Your rights to be consulted
12 June 2012, 11:32am
DEEWR downsizing continues in earnest, with the Secretary announcing that about 250 voluntary redundancies have been approved.
Cuts in agency budgets
announced as part of the 2012/13 budget will result in 450 less staff to do
DEEWR’s work and we anticipate some restructuring to deal with this, as well as
ongoing limitations on recruitment.
Your CPSU has been in negotiations with DEEWR, who has agreed to principles
to guide the change management process. The CPSU is in a strong position to take
up staff concerns about change management.
DEEWR’s commitments to the CPSU and to its staff include:
Staff and the CPSU will be involved in consultation on workplace changes
before decisions are made.
Responsibilities will be balanced and there will be a focus on
maintaining reasonable workloads.
DEEWR will avoid unnecessary restructuring and avoid the use of a
mobility register. Where roles need to be filled, priority will be given to
moving people from areas which are above budget targets in consultation with
staff.
What does it mean?
The CPSU is in a great position to take up staff concerns about restructures,
workloads and their individual jobs to DEEWR Management given DEEWR’s commitment
to ongoing consultation and with improved clauses in the new Enterprise
Agreement. So if you have a concern – make sure you speak with your CPSU
delegate. CPSU delegates are arranging meetings with Deputy Secretaries to
consult in relation to any proposed workplace changes in each Cluster.
How do I get help?
The CPSU has extensive experience supporting its members through
restructures. In the first instance, members should contact their local delegate
