Telstra Lismore: Support when it is needed most

12 September 2012, 8:31am

The formal announcement by Telstra of the closure of the Lismore Contact Centre means some mixed emotions for workers.

Our union has a long and proud history of campaigning for decent redundancy benefits for Telstra workers. We recognise that for some workers the Telstra announcement means a decent redundancy package, and a chance to start a something new and exciting – or even a well earned early retirement.

But for other workers the Telstra decision is a real blow – and they would much prefer to continue their careers and keep doing the good work your Contact Centre is known for.

We know that Telstra can do more to keep people in work. And we are determined to do everything possible to push Telstra to maintain jobs for those who want to keep working.

To make this happen we need your help

The CPSU wants to have further serious discussions with Telstra about maintaining jobs or offering genuine redeployment for workers who want to keep working. To make those discussions viable CPSU needs a clear picture of the number of jobs that Telstra needs to provide.

Confidential and urgent CPSU survey

CPSU is asking all workers to complete a confidential survey. This survey:

  • is about identifying your preferences ( redundancy/redeployment/continue in your job)
  • is completely confidential – your responses are not shared with Telstra or anyone else, and CPSU will use only aggregate data to form a position to take to Telstra management.

By participating in this survey you will be assisting CPSU to continue the fight for your colleagues who do not want to be made redundant. You do not have to be a member to participate.

Got a question or need more information?

You can contact CPSU organiser Mary-Rose Abbott at 0406420815 or mary-rose.abbott@cpsu.org.au
