IP Australia breakthrough! – we have an offer

13 March 2008, 11:00am

Your union today received a comprehensive offer from management which picks up many aspects of our bargaining claim. The offer comes after eight meetings of your CPSU reps pushing our claim and is indicative of the growing level of support among IP staff.

There are several issues not agreed including changes to personal leave arrangements, payment of flex credits on separation and overtime provisions. Further, there are a number of issues that remain unaddressed. CPSU will be seeking your feedback in the coming days on the proposed agreement and welcomes your membership should you support our work and wish to improve our bargaining position.

What matches our claim?

  • 14 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave
  • Two weeks parental support leave
  • No additional hours
  • Guaranteed 15.4% super
  • Access to the AIRC to resolve disputes
  • Allowances to increase in line with pay.

What’s not agreed?

  • Medical certificate required after three consecutive days or after 10 days without evidence in previous 12 months
  • No payment for flex credits on separation
  • Overtime not payable until 7pm instead of after 7:21
  • Remote location work issues not resolved
  • Public holidays at half pay if on recreational leave at half pay
  • Personal leave accrual cut for new starters.

Other features

  • Performance based bonus payments for EL2s only
  • Flextime retained for EL1s but not EL2s
  • Unpaid community service leave.

What about pay?

  • 4% in May 2008
  • 4% in May 2009
  • Additional 1% in October 2009 conditional on two day reduction in personal leave by June 2009
  • New pay structure including an initial adjustment for most pay points and a new structure for patents and trade marks
  • No discretionary pay points.

What happens now?

Your union is currently considering the finer details of the offer and is keen to hear what you think. We will be seeking staff feedback on the offer in the coming days. Our next meeting with management is scheduled for Thursday 20 March. Your feedback will inform our response to management at this meeting.

What do I have to do?

  • Feedback on the proposed agreement to your employee reps or to geeta.jatania@cpsu.org.au
  • Join your union online or call 1300 137 636
  • Talk to your co-workers about the draft and the importance of supporting their union.

Five reasons to join

  1. Show your support for your union bargaining team.
  2. Have a say in the member endorsement ballot once agreement is reached.
  3. Improve our bargaining position.
  4. Gain access to member benefits such as free journey cover insurance and discount banking, shopping, travel and movie tickets.
  5. Union dues are tax deductible.
