CSA Warrawong and Wollongong - your reps and mangement meet

7 April 2008, 12:29pm

On Friday 14 March, your CPSU representatives met with SDM Gerry Cronin and SM Robyn Williams to discuss concerns raised by CPSU members regarding possible breaches of your Certified Agreement.

Matters discussed included:

  • leave approval and management
  • access to flexible working arrangements, including flex accrual and leave
  • over allocation of workload with schedules which do not allow sufficient follow up time
  • unreliable scheduling which does not give the required notice.

At that meeting, your CPSU reps and management reached agreement that:

  1. employees should not be expected to complete an unreasonable number of in-trays and equally should not be scheduled to more than two phone shifts
  2. the SDM will review workload pressures with the executive team including work volume and discuss with your CPSU reps any strategies to deal with the problems
  3. the SDM will communicate to employees explaining what is involved in the nine week planning cycle with regard to scheduling
  4. SDM will communicate to employees that they are entitled to request leave outside of the ‘Leave Requests Periods’, i.e. staff can apply for an ad hoc flex day after the period closes and / or apply for leave before the period opens
  5. employees are entitled to work beyond their scheduled hours; however this is an individual arrangement which they need to make with their team leaders based on workload and team needs. The SDM also agreed this would be communicated to employees.

Your CPSU reps and the SDM were unable resolve the following issues:

  1. Notice of schedules
  2. Who approves leave?
  3. Attendance / well being plans

We have escalated all of these issues to National Transition Team Manager, Bill Volkers. Your CPSU reps will be meeting with Bill on Friday 11 April to try to resolve them. If we are unable to resolve these issues on Friday CPSU will consider what options under the CA we have to resolve this dispute. If you have experienced any of these issues, please let your union know. Confidentiality is assured.

Your ability to win these issues is only as strong as your union membership. If you are a member, we need you to stick your hand up and become a workplace contact. If you are not a member yet, you need you to join now. To join, call 1300 137 636, join securely online or see your CPSU delegate for a membership form.
