Your union acting to support a safe workplace at Infrastructure

22 August 2008, 10:13am

Your union has been talking with management about health and safety arrangements for your workplace. We believe every worker deserves a safe workplace.

Two components of this are good arrangements that affirm your right to representation, and fair, independent mechanisms to resolve disputes should they arise. Management has produced draft arrangements that potentially erode both of these provisions.

What’s being proposed?

  • Limited role of your union representatives
  • Disputes would be resolved internally by the OHS Chairperson.

What is CPSU doing?

Your union will be continuing discussions with management with a view to having these issues resolved. We will be seeking that health and safety arrangements:

  • affirm your right to be represented on health and safety issues; and
  • provide a fair and independent mechanism to resolve disputes like management agreed to in negotiating the DOTARS collective agreement.

What do you think?

There are a few ways you can let your thoughts knows:

  1. Email cheikh.kone@cpsu.org.au and let us know what you think?
  2. Support efforts to maintain and improve your safety at work by joining CPSU. You can join securely online here or call 1300 137 636.
  3. Volunteer to be a workplace contact on health and safety issues.

CPSU values

We believe every worker deserves:

  • Dignity and respect;
  • A safe workplace;
  • Decent pay and conditions;
  • Rights at work; and
  • A balanced working life.

Together we:

  • Provide a voice for all workers;
  • Support and promote a strong and independent public sector; and
  • Make a difference.
