Last RET pay rise under determination - what happens now?

23 September 2008, 1:54pm

RET staff from the former DITR, DEW and DEST have all received their last pay rise. As you may be aware you are currently covered by a Section 24 Determination which keeps you on your current pay and conditions until a new collective agreement is made and operational.

All staff will move onto the new agreement once it has been negotiated, agreed to, voted on and is operational.

Now that I have got my last pay rise, what happens to my conditions?

You will get all your entitlements under the Determination like you would have received had you not been subject to Machinery of Government changes. These stay in place until the Determination is replaced by a new agreement.

Will all staff get a say in what terms and conditions are included in the new CA?

The CPSU represents all staff in negotiations for your replacement agreement. We will continue to invite input from across the range of staff from your former Departments to develop a claim that satisfies what you want and deserve. That said, as a democratic member-run organisation, only financial members of CPSU are able to formally negotiate and make decisions on behalf of the union.

When will a new agreement be in place?

The new agreement will be in place once a number of steps have been completed. These include claim development, the parties reaching in-principal agreement, CPSU member endorsement, Ministerial approval, all-staff consideration period and vote, lodgement with the Workplace Authority and passing ‘no disadvantage test’. The length of the bargaining will depend upon what happens at the table. So it makes sense everyone gets involved now to help develop a claim that is representative and supported by employees.

What is happening now?

Your union has just received the list of representatives for the bargaining team in your relevant sections. These representatives will now meet with CPSU negotiators to finalise our claim before planning a preliminary negotiation meeting with management. Your representatives are:

Name Phone number Division
Michael Gardiner 6213 7961 Resources
Andrew Lewis 6213 7148 Energy and Environment
Tracy Galindo-Fleming 6213 6102 Energy and Environment
Karen Jacobson 6213 7068 Tourism
Heath Axelby 6243 7036 Enabling Services

What happens next?

  • CPSU and your reps to meet and finalise bargaining claim  – Thursday 24 September at 10.30
  • Participate - Come to claim feedback meetings (tbc)
  • Commit - Join the CPSU online or call 1300 137 636
  • Be a leader – volunteer to keep information flowing in your division.
