DoHA - your capacity crippled by workload?

1 October 2008, 10:27am
Crippled by workload? Act now and participate in our online survey! Crippled by workload? Act now and participate in our online survey!

Despite planning throughout the agency, staff continue to struggle to maintain standards and work quality with significantly reduced resources, “absorbing” the workload of others who are no longer there.

Your Secretary told NSPF representatives that workloads and priorities would be managed through consultations. To date, your union representatives can find no evidence of workloads being reduced through departmental consultations and planning.

Recent CPSU survey results are alarming:

  • 75% of respondents have experienced staff cuts in their area
  • 75% indicated they have recently experienced an increased workload
  • 60% of those who reported staff cuts in their area also reported dissatisfaction with the level of staff consultation in their section
  • The more senior you are, the less choice you have about accruing or taking flex time and the more unmanageable your workload is likely to be.

Some members have expressed concern about the next COAG round as so many are struggling now, what if the next heads of government meeting pushes more work onto DoHA staff across Australia?

What can you do?

A big thank you to all those who participated in our survey about workloads at DoHA. However, when taken in the context of the vast number of DoHA staff across Australia, we need a much larger response rate if your concerns about workload are to be heard and acted upon.

Act now to make sure your views are heard

  • Fill in our DoHA workload survey online here
  • Encourage your friends and colleagues to fill it in too
