The reactions to management’s pay offer keep coming in - and despite CPSU having only reached the halfway mark in a round of national meetings and your message is clear – the offer is unacceptable.
Staff have expressed disappointment, frustration and outrage at meetings and
through our fahcsiamembers@cpsu.org.au mailbox. Now we need you to participate
in activities to assist your bargaining team in making your views clear to
management when we meet next on 2 October.
Thanks to everyone who has raised concerns over management’s proposal at
meetings and through our mailbox. All of your feedback is useful and assists
your bargaining team at the table. To further make our point all FaHCSIA staff
are asked to wear “We’re Worth More” and “Far From Equal” stickers from next
Tuesday 30 September.
Why stickers?
When your bargaining team walk back in the room on Thursday 2 October we want
to demonstrate to management that you are there with them. Through our meetings
you have made your views very clear. To ensure management understand your team
genuinely represent the views of a majority of staff we need you to participate
in this show of support.
What will this achieve?
We are all committed to working with you to get the agreement you deserve. We
are concerned that your current agreement expires soon - 14 November 2008 - and
we need to get management moving quickly on a better offer. FaHCSIA management
responded to your pay claim by accepting your salaries need to be competitive
with other APS agencies and that a catch-up element is required. You are telling
us this has made the offer tabled even more insulting. To achieve the best
possible outcomes as quickly as possible we need all FaHCSIA staff to commit to
working together. This means joining your union and participating in collective
activities.
Current models can make it difficult for agencies to fund fair pay rises. We
think you would have a pretty good idea of where the department might be able to
save some money without comprising either services or conditions. So, when
management says “we can’t afford more” we would like to be able respond with
your ideas on how they could do better in this area. There are double movie
tickets or books for the 10 best ideas – email yours to
fahcsiamembers@cpsu.org.au
