Shaping Our Future

The CPSU has existed as a trade union in one form or another for close to 100 years. We've achieved a lot together. When you consider how much the world has changed over that time, our success is a remarkable accomplishment.

So what has been the secret of our achievements so far?

It’s based on a few crucial things:

  • the shared values of tens of thousands of working people who’ve joined our union
  • the hard work and commitment of our workplace delegates and union members
  • our willingness as an organisation to embrace change.

Five years ago CPSU delegates came together to develop a long-term plan called our Agenda for Change. It set out a range of issues our union wanted to pursue including:

  • funding quality public services
  • democratic workplaces and fair industrial relations
  • closing the pay gap
  • employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

While we can all be proud of the things we’ve achieved through our Agenda for Change, the world, as it does, has changed. Our environment is constantly evolving and our members face new and different challenges. It’s now time to check our progress, revisit our goals and make plans to take the next steps.

In 2012 we worked with delegates on an exciting initiative to make our union bigger and more effective, called Shaping our Future.
