FAQs

What's all this about Journey Insurance?

In April 2007, the Howard Government used its Senate majority to drastically reduce workers' compensation arrangements for public sector workers. Among many other changes, the Government removed workers' compensation cover for public servants who are injured while travelling to or from home to work.

Additional details

In the run up to the federal election CPSU members are campaigning against the Howard Government's changes. We are also lobbying the ALP for a commitment to reintroduce fair cover should they be elected.

As this part of the campaign continues, the CPSU has decided to introduce its own 'income maintenance insurance' for union members. The idea is to provide a 'safety net' while the campaign for a better deal plays out.

It means union members no longer face financial ruin if they are seriously injured on a journey on their way to or from work which would previously have been covered. This cover will be provided freely and automatically to CPSU members only from 26 August 2007.
