Get calling today

5 October 2012, 10:02am

The Cuts Hurt message is reaching politicians, thanks to hundreds of calls made by CPSU delegates over the past weeks.

The CPSU is now asking members to pick up the phone too and call their Federal Labor MPs and Senators to ask them to stand up for public services and oppose cuts. To find out how you can get involved in making these important calls download our tip sheet, talk to your delegate, call the CPSU on 1300 137 636 or email us at rights@cpsu.org.au  When you've made a call, let us know about your progress here.

What is the Cuts Hurt campaign?

Cuts Hurt is a new campaign is about protecting public sector jobs and services and demonstrating the value of the services our members deliver to the Australian community.  Our aim is to:

  • protect public sector jobs and services
  • ensure decision-makers hear and understand our concerns ahead of the MYEFO and the Federal Budget
  • highlight the damage cuts do and build community support for the work you perform
  • encourage workers to join their union and support the campaign,

Why do we need you to call politicians now?

Right now, the Gillard Government is making crucial budget and funding decisions as part of the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook statement (MYEFO), which is released each November. The last MYEFO statement took $2.4 billion and 4,200 jobs out of the sector, increasing workloads and making it harder for people to access quality services.  The deadline for calling Labor politicians and Senators in time to help influence a positive MYEFO outcome is fast approaching, so call the CPSU today on 1300 137 636 or email us at rights@cpsu.org.au to find out who your local politician is and for some tips on making your call count.
