6 June 2008, 10:11am

News from Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation Queensland.

Stolen Wages Claimants meetings

The Cairns Stolen Wages Claimants Consultation and Information Gathering Meeting will be held at Level 1, Unit 25, 25-29 Grafton St (a representative will wait in the foyer to assist) on Wednesday 11 June 2008 from 9:30am – 12:30pm. There are also meetings in:

  • Rockhampton: Reconnect Fitzroy Basin Elders, 22 East St on Monday 9 June, 11am to 2:30pm
  • Townsville: St Therese's Catholic Church, Meenan St, Garbutt on Tuesday 10 June, 10am to 1:30pm

The Queensland Council of Unions supports stolen wages claimants in their rejection of redirecting wages to fund educational scholarships

QCU Indigenous Officer Kara Touchie and Industrial Officer Charles Massey will be attending this meeting. The QCU would like to consult with claimants about:

  • the QCU’s support of stolen wages claimants; and
  • how the QCU can progress the campaign from an industrial relations perspective.

This meeting is focused on providing information to and gathering information from:

  • claimants who accepted the initial payment of $4000 and $2000;
  • claimants who rejected the initial payment;
  • claimants whose claim was rejected by the government;

Could all claimants attending the meeting please bring any paper work received from the government about their claim and any copies of documents they signed or letters sent to the government.

Dreaming Festival

The 2008 Dreaming Festival at Woodford is still on this weekend! We have heard that the sun is shinning and it is hot up there (also be prepared though). The Dreaming is no doubt Australia's most outstanding art and politics festival and something not to be missed. We would like some help on the Close the Gap stall on and are happy to subsidise the part cost of your ticket in exchange for some volunteer work. If you are keen please contact Kitty on 3844 9800 or kitty@antarqld.org,au

For info on ticket prices and sales check out their website and you can also find the whole festival program online here too.

NAIDOC Family Fun Day

ANTaR Qld is looking for helpers for our stall at the NAIDOC Family Fun Day on Friday 11 July 2008. If you are keen to help please contact or Cherry at ANTaR on 3844 9800.
