APS collective agreements: Delivering an average 4.3% increase for the second year running
Collective bargaining is continuing to deliver strong and consistent wage outcomes - especially in the public sector - according to latest Government research.
The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) has released figures for average annualised wage increases for public and private sector agreements.
APS collective agreements - commencing between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008 - have delivered an average wage increase of 4.3% for a second year in a row.
The corresponding private sector increase was 3.8%.
The strong results reflect the high level and popularity of collective agreements in the public sector, the overwhelming majority of which are negotiated by unions.
All current union collective agreements operating as of March 2008 delivered an average annual increase of 4%, compared to non-union deals which only showed an 3.6% rise.
