Centrelink - Respecting your right to representation

No matter how busy your office is or how long you’ve worked there; you are allowed to have someone assist you and support you on any workplace matter.

This includes rescheduling a meeting if you’d like representation. Your rights to be represented by your union are protected by your Centrelink Agreement (check out clause 10) and the Fair Work Act.

Who can be represented?

  • probationers
  • non-ongoing staff
  • temporary employees
  • full-time employees
  • part-time employees
  • Any employee!

You choose your representative

Whether the meeting is

  • during the performance assessment process
  • a coaching session
  • an informal chat with your team leader
  • a Code of Conduct interview or action
  • a disagreement about accessing your conditions or entitlements
  • consultation on matters that affect you or your workplace, or
  • any other formal or informal meeting.

You choose your representative, and it could be

  • a delegate in your workplace
  • any union member
  • your union organiser
  • another person of your choice, or
  • a CPSU industrial officer (call 1300 137 636 for help).

Rescheduling to get representation is OK

  • no matter how busy your office is, you are always entitled to your right to be represented
  • you can postpone a meeting or discussion until the person of your choice can attend, and
  • remember, you cannot be denied your right to representation.

Your union will support you and assist you in enforcing your right to representation – call us 1300 137 636.

Your involvement and your membership matters

Please, share this bulletin and ask one of your workmates to join your union.

Join your union by calling 1300 137 636 or join online here.
