CSA - Part time hours

This KYR applies to the CSA Collective Agreement 2008 - 2011

Who can work part time?

New employees who are recruited by CSA on a part time basis; existing full time employees may request access to part time work; and employees returning from maternity and/or up to 12 months parental leave will have access to part time work until the child reaches five years of age.

Is there a criteria to obtain a Part Time Work Agreements (PTWA)?

No, there is no set criteria to obtain access to a PTWA Your agreement states that “a reasonable request by an employee to access regular part time work, or renew a current Part Time Work Agreement, that balances the employee’s personal needs with operational requirements will be approved by the GM”. s.186

How long does a PTWA last for?

A specified period by agreement between you and CSA, of no more than 12 months

Can CSA change my current PTWAs?

No, existing PTWAs can only be varied by agreement between the GM (or delegate) and you. If you are approached by a manager to change the detail of your PTWA, you should request a formal meeting for the discussion and ensure you have a support person present with you, preferably a CPSU delegate. If you would like to change the detail of your PTWA, the process for this is the same as for renegotiating an expired or expiring PTWA.

I need to renegotiate my expired or expiring Part Time Work Agreement

You must be notified at least 28 days before the expiry of your PTWA. Schedule a meeting with your manager and arrange to have your CPSU delegate or a support personal present. At this point you should discuss any changed operational requirements or proposed changes to hours of work. It is expected that the continuation of the current PTWA shall be approved unless operational circumstances have demonstrably changed. If agreement cannot be reached through this process, the GM and the employee may agree to extend the PTWA for a short period to enable you to arrange your personal circumstances in line with the revised arrangements.

What if I disagree with a decision made by CSA?

All employees have the right to either initiate a review of action if you disagree with the decision made about your employment, or initiate a dispute if you believe CSA decision breaches our Collective Agreement. If you disagree with a management decision in relation to part time work, you should contact your CPSU delegate or the CPSU Member Service Centre on 1300 137 636 immediately for advice and support.
