CSA - Advancement

This KYR applies to the CSA Collective Agreement 2008 - 2011.

Under the 2008 Collective Agreement, employees now have two ways to advance within the CSO 1 to CSO 4 levels (see S.52):

  1. ‘salary progression based on the employee achieving an annual performance rating of 2 or 3 in accordance with Clause 213’ (i.e. Performance Assessment Guidelines); or

  2. ‘an employee choosing to accelerate advancement through the use of an agreed internal assessment process in accordance with Clause 54’ (a log book).

These processes are not subject to a ‘Work Availability Test’. That means that you do not have to wait until a (for e.g.) CSO 4 job to open up.

Have an issue with Advancement?

Speak to your workplace CPSU Delegate about this. Your CPSU delegates are there to assist CPSU members with any workplace issues. Not a CPSU member yet? You should speak to your CPSU delegates in your workplace. They can give you independent advice and will speak you about joining the CPSU.

Disagree with a decision related to advancement or a performance assessment?

All employees within the Public Service have a right to review a decision made about their employment. It’s called a ‘Section 33 Review’ (in relation to Section 33 of the Public Service Act 1999). Speak to your delegate or contact the Member Service Centre on 1300 137 636 for further assistance.

It pays to belong

CSA staff who are not yet members need to join now. CPSU works to protect and improve members’ rights and entitlements as well as ensuring you have advice and support when you need it. To join the CPSU, see your workplace delegate for an application form today, or join securely online.
