National President Mark Gepp presents Assistant National Secretary Margaret Gillespie with a Lifetime Membership Award
Congratulations to the 36 CPSU members who were recognised for their outstanding work with the union at Governing Council last weekend.
These people went above and beyond the call of duty during the Rights At Work campaign – doorknocking on weekends, cold calling other CPSU members, organising information sessions and ultimately giving up their personal time each week to make the campaign a success.
DEEWR staff member and Section Councillor, Nick O’Gorman, said that while it was a surprise to receive an individual award, as he saw the campaign as a group effort, “it was an honor to be recognized an advocate for workers in the public service and other agencies.”
A formal drinks function was held in Canberra for ACT members, where National Secretary Stephen Jones and National President Mark Gepp presented the winners with trophies and certificates.
Mr. O’Gorman said the awards ceremony was a lot of fun and enjoyed meeting CPSU members from other departments. “They faced a lot of struggles too, as a result of some of the policies which came out in the last few years, and I found their work inspirational.”
“It’s great that we all stood up and were counted in the fight for decency in Australia.”
Well done to Al Randall, Annette Clark, Carolyn Allen, Dianne Churchill, Frances Prentice, Bill Thomas, Brenda Higham, Dan Gerritsen, Ella Mullins, Glenys Lindner, Greg McCarron, Ivan Matthews, Kerri Lee, Lewis Albanis, Nick O’Gorman, Pauline Kreibig, Terri Brown. Alison Lapidge, Allison Wood, Andrew Kristjanson, Anna Hyland, Catherine Fitch, Lucy Gormly, Margaret Anderson, Margaret Close, Mary Molan, Tara Booth, Tiffany Karlsson, Victor Rodziewicz, Wendy Spicer, Tony Hyams, and Vanessa Ferguson, who all won Recognition Awards.
Special congratulations to Margaret Gillespie, Lynton Sherry and Simon Cocker who were awarded Life Membership, and to Steve Mastwyk who was awarded a Meritorious Service Award.
