Workplace wrap, April 2008

16 April 2008, 10:52am

All sections of the CPSU are working flat out on bargaining, industrial cases and enforcing agreements. Here are some of the current highlights from DEEWR, CRS, Telstra and elsewhere.

CRS:
More than 70% of CRS staff have voted in favour of pursuing a union CA. And they’ve made the right decision; all the data shows union collective agreements deliver better pay and conditions for all staff. Read more at http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6637.html

DEEWR: Ensuring all DEEWR staff share quality pay outcomes in the new collective agreement is a top priority for CPSU. But with many different employment arrangements currently in effect, gaining accurate information about individual situations will be critical to conducting transparent negotiations. Check the figures to see where you stand here http://www.cpsu.org.au/campaigns/news/6718.html

Telstra: Telstra unions are preparing to negotiate for a new collective agreement that could test the effectiveness of the Rudd Government's AWA ban, with redundancy entitlements and pay-related performance targets emerging as major issues of concern for the telco's 35,000 employees. The CPSU, CEPU and APESMA will operate as a single bargaining unit in negotiations due to start next month on a collective agreement to replace their current three-year deal, which will be the telco's first such arrangement since the introduction of AWAs by the former Howard government in 1996. The unions' current agreement with Telstra expires in September. To inform the bargaining strategy, the CPSU is conducting an online survey open to all Testra employees, including an estimated 60% of whom are on AWAs.

OOSGG: Staff at the Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General have unanimously rejected management’s latest offer of an increase in hours to 7.30 in return for a pay increase of 4.2% annually for three years. Management also refused to protect conditions by ensuring previously agreed key policies such as Performance Support Framework, OHS, and Work Level Standards can only be varied within the agreement. More on this at http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6605.html

ABS: In an indication of growing support for the CPSU, met with ABS management has responded to strong union representation that pay and conditions must be improved. More here http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6680.html

CSA: CPSU representatives recently met CSA management to discuss concerns raised by CPSU members about possible breaches of the Certified Agreement. Matters discussed included: leave approval; access to flexible working arrangements; and workload allocation. Read on here http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6634.html

NMA: Feedback from a National Museum of Australia bargaining survey is being collated into a draft claim that will form the basis of negotiations with management. The draft is almost complete and will soon be distributed for further comment and member endorsement. Highlights include that 92 % support the CPSU pay claim of 5% pa and 100% agree wage rates need to keep up with the market. More at http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6606.html

AUSTRAC: With the current agreement expiring on 21 April, AUSTRAC bargaining has reached crunch point. Despite the very clear views of staff, the employer is still seeking to increase working hours and make comprehensive cuts to redundancy benefits. Read on at http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6603.html

Centrelink: Staff at Centrelink’s Participation Solution Team have serious concerns about changes to employment conditions and their workplaces. Members are saying Centrelink has not and is not consulting on PST changes. More at http://www.cpsu.org.au/agency/news/6654.html
