CPSU fees are adjusted automatically each July based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). For most members the increase will be less than 35 cents a week.
The increase for last year (Jan 07 – Dec 07) was 3% so all CPSU membership fees will increase by that amount from 1 July 2008.
What about part-timers?
Union fees are based on actual annual salary earned, not classification level. So part-timers pay fees at the tier level closest to their actual yearly income.
Are my union fees tax deductible?
Yes. The CPSU will provide annual receipts before the end of July to all members who pay their fees by Direct Debit Subscriptions (DDS) via your bank/credit union, by automatic credit card payment or through invoice payments. Members who use the Payroll Deduction (PRD) method will find their union subscriptions details on their employee statement.
What’s the easiest way to pay my union fees?
In terms of value and convenience for members – and cost effectiveness for the union – automatic credit card payments and Direct Debit Subscriptions (DDS) via your bank or credit union are the preferred payment options. To find out more and update your details call us on 1300 137 636 or click here.
What is the Your Rights at Work Levy?
In May 2006, CPSU Governing Council (GC) introduced a voluntary levy of $1 per member, per week to fund the Your Rights at Work campaign for fair workplace laws. The levy is being used to fund extra organisers, advertising, legal advice, campaign materials, education, development and support for members and activists.
Why has it been extended?
While the Government has changed, Australia does not yet have new workplace laws in place. Therefore CPSU Governing Council has endorsed a proposal to extend the voluntary Your Rights at Work campaign levy until 30 June 2009. The extension will assist unions deal with the unfinished business of WorkChoices and allow us to keep pressure on all politicians to deliver the new laws we voted for. The levy will continue to be used for research, advertising, media and community campaigns, training for workplace delegates, and iconic campaigns against employers such as Telstra. If you no longer wish to contribute to the Your Rights at Work campaign levy, you can ‘opt out’ by clicking here or by emailing members@cpsu.org.au or calling on 1300 137 636 .
Better wages, better conditions
When CPSU members join together in the workplace to negotiate, they get a better deal. The more members we have, the more we can achieve together. In workplaces with CPSU agreements, staff are more likely to get: real wage increases; better sick leave and holiday entitlements; access to family friendly conditions and paid maternity leave; and better health and safety standards.
Protection and support at work
As a CPSU member you will receive specialist advice and support whenever you need it. Our highly trained staff and network of delegates can help with: pay, allowances and agreements; policy and legislation; workplace conflict, harassment and bullying; code of conduct issues; workers' compensation; leave and hours of work; performance and career development; health and safety; superannuation; training and education
Membership benefits
The CPSU delivers real benefits to members, saving you money and time.
Insurance: CPSU members enjoy special rates on a range of insurance including private health cover, car, home and contents insurance. Members can also access free income protection insurance if they are injured travelling to or from work.
Banking and home loans: As a CPSU member you have access to a range of low-cost products offered by Members Equity Bank. These include award-winning home loans, savings accounts, credit cards and personal loans.
Union Shopper: This completely free service takes the hard work out of shopping for cars, white-goods and even holidays. Simply choose the brand and model you want and the specialist staff at Union Shopper will call you back with the lowest price they can negotiate.
New CPSU fees for 08/09
Automatic credit card (including GST)
1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009
Direct debit (including GST)
1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009
I notice that the salary range at which point each level of membership fee cuts in has not been adjusted in a very long time to take account of the increase(s) in union member's wages or salary

I work in the APS up here and the number of APS staff making money on the back of the misfortune of indigenous people is ridiculous. What the union should be doing is putting an end to the exploitation of indigenous people and look at getting more local indigenous people looking after there people and not southerners up here on a free holiday with excessive travel allowance.

Hi Its great to see that our fees just flow on higher but is your responsibilities flowing on . APS in NT are under higher cost than any other state or territory yet we don?t see much happening . If this labour government was as good as you fought for we should have seen some flow on by now . I have written to you people on other occasions and have never received a response . I support the union but I really wonder if I?m getting any value. I work hard in my job and actual love what I?m doing . If you really want to show you are doing a great job get a tax free fuel card for all government workers in the NT I bet you wont and I bet you have an good excuse for not looking at it , but at the end of the day you really have to stop and think who it is paying the fees. Every day the labour Gov is in power I see people who have not a clue in what they are doing. I sure hope they get their act together as I believe my vote was a waste of time. The NTER is just another good example of our new government pulling down a great idea . Our wonderful indigenous people need help, by being tough in many areas which have been left to go on far to long . some times we have to be tough to be kind and most community people know this , might not like it but they know they need to change their life styles . So you guy need to support the NTER Response and the Government people working in it; as we are your members
