AQIS: The release of the Callinan Report into the August 2007 equine influenza outbreak has confirmed that a lack of staff and resources at AQIS was a key cause of the horse flu crisis - vindicating union concerns that AQIS has been under-resourced for some time. CPSU is currently examining all the recommendations and their implications for staff. For more information including links to the full report and the Government's response, click here.
CSIRO action: The CSIRO Staff Association has called a national ‘Day of Protest’ on Friday 13 June. I am disappointed to see no reference to the saga that has unfolded at CSA in regard to the agency agreement which was originally agreed to in January 08 and then "officially" in March 08 (backdated to March)which still is to be finalised due to CSA management delays. This is causing a huge amount of stress for staff and combined with the legislative changes on 1.7.08 is dragging staff morale to a new low. I have been in the agency for 10 years and it has never been so bad and confrontational in the workplace.
