WorkChoices gone by Easter, No laughing matter, Rudd never sleeps, Travel compo update, March workplace wrap, and much more...

WorkChoices gone by Easter?
The Federal Government is hoping to enact its new Forward with Fairness laws before Easter which will dismantle WorkChoices and ban new Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs). Find out what this means for your workplace and have your say here.

Humour in the workplace... is it a laughing matter?
As the annual Humour in Business awards kick off in New Zealand, we ask the question... at what point does 'funny' become 'peculiar' in your workplace? Read more and share your stories here.

PS travel compo update: The CPSU has called for the reinstatement of workers’ compensation coverage for travel between an employees' residence and usual place of work. Read more here.

Workplace wrap: A deal at last in CSA and a pay rise in the NTPS are just the tip of the CPSU bargaining iceberg. Get all the latest news hot from the negotiations table here.

Rudd never sleeps: Since he was sworn in as Prime Minister in early December, Kevin Rudd has maintained a frenetic work rate. But will the relentless pace leave key staff burnt out and browned off? Read more from the ABC ACT Stateline program here and send your comments to rights@cpsu.org.au

Recognise the past, embrace the future: When the Federal Parliament made history on 13 February by offering a formal apology to members of the Stolen Generation, it marked an important step in a journey of healing for one CPSU member. Read more here.

Taking the next steps - Governing Council 2008: CPSU Governing Council will convene for three days in Canberra from 28 March to determine the strategic direction and objectives of the union. Read more here.

Just the ticket! Should workers have commuting time included in their official work day because public transport and traffic troubles make journeys so lengthy? A leading union official says yes. Read more from News.Limited here and send your feedback to cpsunews@cpsu.org.au

Helping holiday hand for union members... School holidays are fast approaching and there's some great value to be found from our friends at Union Shopper. There are great 'member only' discounts available at a range of holiday destinations such as Australia Zoo, Currumbin Wildlife Sancutary, the Australian Maritime Museum and Seaworld to name a few. More information here or call us on 1300 137 636.

Short cuts:

  • Survey for delegates: CPSU delegates are invited to participate in a training and skills survey with researchers from the University of Sydney. The results will help inform union and public policy about the role of trade unions in the future skills agenda in Australia. All delegates are encouraged to complete the survey, which should take no longer than 10 minutes. The survey can be accessed here.

  • Public service leadership survey: APS staff have been invited to take part in a survey exploring the level and quality of leadership in the Public Service. Find out more here.

  • Jobs at CPSU: Interested in working for the union? We have a number of positions vacant at the moment. If you're keen to make a difference we want to hear from you. More information here.
