Paid pandemic leave is on the national agenda

The CPSU, alongside the whole Australian union movement, has been calling for paid pandemic leave for all Australian workers since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When workers are forced to choose between safety and their income, it puts us all at risk.

Our union successfully won paid leave for our casual members who are forced to self-isolate or who contract COVID-19, however members on labour hire contracts are still without paid leave arrangements.

Yesterday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews acknowledged that the lack of paid leave is a significant factor in COVID-19 transmission and has today announced a $300 payment for workers without paid leave who need to self-isolate.

The federal government urgently needs to fix this for all Australian workers and can start by guaranteeing labour hire employees in the APS paid leave.

Today, we're raising this directly with the Prime Minister.
