Whether it’s helping members through job losses or a toxic workplace culture with uncollaborative management, the life of a union organiser can be challenging. Thankfully, this is not one of those stories.
One of the absolute joys of this job is seeing the interesting, and yes, sometimes adorable work our members do. Last week South Queensland Organiser, Tina Marsh and workplace delegate Steve Burrows ran a meeting in the Dog Handler Unit at RAAF Base Amberley. It was an absolute treat to meet all these good boys and good girls, and made for a great break from hounding management for a response to WHS concerns.
“I found the majority of attendees at the meeting had very short attention spans and when they were given food they were not interested in anything I had to say,” said Tina about the eight puppies who were only 6 weeks old. “The five month old pups weren’t any better. They just wanted to play.”
Dogs understand the value of working in a pack - they are original unionists.
