CPSU - it works for me!

Joining CPSU is a smart move! Joining CPSU is a smart move!
If you're not yet a member of the Community and Public Sector Union, it's worth taking a few minutes to think about the benefits.

To join online, click here!

We have around 60,000 members working across the country, primarily in the public sector. This gives us the ability to deliver high quality services and benefits to members. Those services include advice, protection and support at work. We also use the size of the union to deliver real membership benefits such as health care, insurance, financial planning discount shopping service and reduced cost home loans.

Protection and support at work

As a CPSU member you will receive specialist advice and support whenever you need it. Our highly trained staff and network of delegates can help with:

  • pay and allowances agreements
  • policy and legislation
  • workplace conflict, harassment and bullying
  • code of conduct issues
  • workers' compensation
  • leave and hours of work
  • performance and career development
  • health and safety issues
  • superannuation
  • training and education

Better wages, better conditions

When CPSU members join together in the workplace to negotiate, they get a better deal. The more members we have, the more we can achieve together. In departments with CPSU agreements, staff are more likely to get:

  • real wage increases
  • better sick leave and holiday entitlements
  • more access to benefits such as family friendly conditions and paid maternity leave
  • better health and safety standards.

Membership benefits

The CPSU delivers real benefits to members, saving you money and time. You can find out more here.

Protecting your rights

The CPSU is always working to protect the hard-won conditions and benefits members enjoy at work. Members who want to make a difference in their workplace and in their community can join in these campaigns. We believe every worker deserves:

  • dignity and respect
  • a safe and sustainable workplace
  • decent pay and conditions
  • rights at work
  • a balanced working life.

Together we provide a voice for all workers. We also support and promote a strong and independent public sector. As you can see there are a lot of reasons to join the CPSU.

   What members say

"CPSU gives me access to independent, expert workplace advice when I need it. I'm glad I've got someone on my side." Angela P (DIAC)

"I feel better knowing the CPSU is in my corner, campaigning to protect my rights at work." Zoe R (FaCSIA)

"By working together through our union, we all get a better deal at work. It works for me." Greg M (ATO)

"When you consider the pay rises, the conditions and the discounts - I come out well ahead. " Andrew D (Centrelink)

Who can join the CPSU?

CPSU membership is open to employees in a wide range of industries including the public sector, telecommunications, call centres, broadcasting, employment services, aviation, science and research. To join online, click here!

How much does it cost?

For most CPSU members it costs between $11 to $13 a week to be part of the union. Discounts are available for part-timers. You may not know it but your union membership is fully tax deductible. That means the amount you pay can be deducted from your taxable income every year. When you combine that saving with the many other benefits of membership, joining is a smart move.
