Questacon - getting the details right

22 March 2010, 1:45pm

Management has given your union team a draft EA and we’re preparing a comprehensive response.

We are committed to achieving a timely and clear settlement that gets a fair outcome for Questacon employees.

Answers needed on adult rates transition, consultation and women’s super

Management’s draft Your union believes
Aged based employees will be increased to APS 1.1 upon satisfactory assessment as set out in the yet unwritten ‘Transition To Adult Salary Rates Policy’

Salary increase will occur with effect from 1 January or 1 July

This hard fought win should come into effect on day one of the new agreement

We cannot recommend something if we don’t know what it is

This goes to the heart of why improved consultation provisions are important

Fewer facilities for employee reps than in the DIISR agreement

Consultation limited to strategic in nature and excludes issues relating to specific employees or groups of employees

Policies and guidelines excluded from the agreement and are non-enforceable

Questacon employees should have access to the same consultation provisions as DIISR, specifically:
  • facilities for employee reps
  • opportunity to influence decisions not only in appearance, but in fact
  • subject to dispute settlement
  • Management agreed to align consultation provisions in earlier EA meetings
Women’s superannuation under threat when on unpaid maternity leave through an administrative change Women should continue to receive their employer super contribution to ensure a decent income in retirement

What happens next?

  1. Union team to seek answers and further clarity from management
  2. Management to genuinely consider our response and advise regarding a final draft EA
  3. Union vote on whether we endorse and recommend the revised package

Not yet a member?

By being union members you help provide the power and resources we need to win a decent outcome for you and your colleagues. Membership fees are tax-deductible and tiered to salary so the less you earn, the less you pay i.e. casuals earning less than $10,000 can join for $3.90 a fortnight.  Technical and trades employees (Fyshwick workshop) are encouraged to join the AMWU.
