It’s time to vote on the new AWM agreement

14 May 2010, 2:58pm

CPSU wants members to SAY YES to the proposed AWM enterprise agreement in the upcoming all staff vote.

What we have accomplished together

  • A three percent pay rise
  • Flexibility for staff who choose to participate in discretionary work outside core hours. TOIL paid at time and half, no disadvantage to staff who can’t participate, and the guarantee that no employee will suffer any disadvantage if they don’t participate
  • Each union will have a representational rights in the WRC
  • Broaden the list of staff eligible to receive the restriction/on-call allowance to 30 minutes where warranted
  • Improved delegates rights and their representative’s rights in the enterprise agreement
  • Improve family-friendly conditions including finding suitable locations for staff who need lactation breaks/breastfeeding facilities
  • Payment for up to one week deemed leave at the time the leave is deemed
  • Protective equipment for security staff including sunglasses, and improved working arrangements
  • Employees on unpaid periods of maternity leave will have the same employer contributions according to FCS calculations, ie. no disadvantage to staff through the move from FCS to OTE

The ones that got away

While we achieved many of our claims, AWM did not agree to increase maternity leave, casual loading or standardising ongoing employment because of costs. Our Christmas shutdown proposal also won’t be included in this agreement but we’ll keep talking with AWM management about it.

Looking forward – a Better Way to Bargain

CPSU is determined to work closely with AWM members and eligible staff to achieve even better outcomes in the future. Our Better Way to Bargain campaign aims to improve the way the APS bargains. We have already made significant strides and the future success of this campaign is critical to achieving your goals of wage parity and avoiding job cuts. You can join online here or call 1300 137 636. Our follow this link to find out more about the Better Way to Bargain campaign.

What happens now?

Your proposed EA has been sent to DEEWR for assessment and will be followed by the ministerial vetting process. The CPSU member vote will be followed by an all staff consideration period and vote.
