Once every three years union members in Defence get an opportunity to negotiate pay and improvements to conditions, such study entitlements, career development, performance assessment and progression, work-life balance measures and leave entitlements.
In a department as big as Defence, the union provides a voice for members in all bases across the country, so that you can have your say on what you would like to see improved.
Have your say on what you want for the next DECA
CPSU members decide what gets negotiated with Defence management in DECA bargaining. If you are a CPSU member, have your say now by filling in the CPSU Defence bargaining survey.
Stage one: getting organised
Having a union negotiated agreement means that union members drive the bargaining campaign. The first step in the CPSU DECA 09 bargaining campaign is to establish a network of CPSU volunteers, who will be trained by the CPSU. Each workplace needs a team of volunteers to receive bargaining updates as negotiations take place, to make sure everyone in the workplace is informed, and to gather your colleagues' feedback. A strong network of volunteers means broad support for your claim, and a better DECA. Sign up to be a campaign volunteer here .
Stage two: what do you want in your DECA?
When official negotiations start, CPSU will serve a bargaining claim on Defence management, which will be the CPSU position on what should be in the DECA. But first CPSU members need to have say. In September a bargaining survey will go out to all members so that you can have your say on what you would like in the DECA. Non-members will have an opportunity to comment. CPSU members will then vote on the CPSU bargaining position before it is served to management.
Stage three: talking to management
Official negotiations commence on 27 October. CPSU will have served the CPSU bargaining claim on management, and will be ready to negotiate for a new DECA.
CPSU Core Claim The core claim is the building block of all CPSU bargaining campaigns. It is based on our experience negotiating hundreds of collective agreements over the last two years. It outlines key bargaining elements which Governing Council believe should be contained in every CPSU-negotiated agreement. [read more]
