Austrade UCA

Shortly Austrade employees will get to choose the type of new agreement they want – a union collective agreement or a non-union employee agreement.

All across the APS, workers choose union agreements. In fact 87% of APS staff have union negotiated agreements. This is because they deliver better results on pay, rights and conditions. There are four reasons why a union agreement is the right choice for Austrade.  Want to know more about CPSU and the benefits of joining? Click here.

1. A union agreement equals the right to negotiate

Union agreements Non-union agreements
employers have to negotiate employers don’t have to negotiate
you are represented at negotiations by professional CPSU advocates working with your workplace reps employers may choose to consult with staff or staff reps, but they are not obliged to
all staff vote on an agreement that has been vetted by the CPSU legal team no obligation for employer to have a draft agreement checked by union or staff reps

2. A union agreement means you can match your employer’s resources and expertise

Because Austrade gets advice from DEEWR, and is part of the APS HR Network, it is armed with the latest information and tactics from other agencies. CPSU is the only organisation that can do the same for workers. CPSU backs its negotiators with research and industry analysis, campaigning, media and lobbying expertise. One a union agreement is made, CPSU will make sure that management sticks to the agreement and you get what you bargained for.

3. Only a union agreement gets all workers involved and gives them a real say

Through workplace reps, meetings, surveys, E-news, the web and all-worker ballots, CPSU makes sure workers are involved and have a real say. A union agreement means you get to develop and endorse a claim, get regular feedback, give direction to your negotiators, have access to expert advice and decide when your agreement is made and what is in it.

4. Union agreements deliver better pay and conditions

An analysis of bargaining outcomes over the last 10 years clearly show that union agreements deliver higher pay, better conditions and real rights in your workplace.

Next step - get organised!

A union negotiated agreement means that union members drive the bargaining campaign. The first step in the Austrade bargaining campaign is to establish a network of CPSU volunteers. Each workplace needs volunteers to receive bargaining updates as negotiations take place, to make sure everyone in the workplace is informed, and to gather colleagues' feedback. A strong network of volunteers means broad support for your claim and a better agreement. Sign up to be a campaign volunteer here.
