CPSU members were front and centre at the ACTU Indigenous Workers’ Conference in Adelaide last week.

A key focus of the ACTU conference was the need for practical measures to improve outcomes in indigenous employment.

The conference explored work being done by a number of unions who are teaming up with employers to open up new employment and training opportunities for indigenous workers.

As well as making significant contributions to the main conference, CPSU members from Centrelink, FASCIA, NTPS, MOPS and the Queensland South Native Title Service, also participated in an extra forum to develop a future agenda for indigenous CPSU members.

With indigenous employment in the APS at an all time low, CPSU members explored options for increasing particiaption, improving recognition and supporting cultural diversity within our sectors.

What you can do

In order to progress these discussions we want to involve as many indigenous CPSU members and supporters as possible. If you come from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait background and would like to get involved send us your details.

The ACTU conference developed a draft Charter of Indigenous Employment Rights. Please feel free to tell us what you think about it by posting a comment below.
