Leave and hours of work

While most employees enjoy their careers, the modern workplace can really put pressure on us. Meeting targets can mean overwork, stress and fatigue. So it's important to get the balance right between your hours of work and your access to leave. Whether it's changing your hours, rosters, personal leave, accessing public holidays, long service, LWOP or annual leave, our organisers understand the issues and can help ensure your rights are respected.

Workplace conflict, harassment and bullying

There is no room for harassment, bullying or victimisation in the modern workplace. Our experienced organisers take an active and pragmatic approach to resolving issues and they focus on practical outcomes.

Pay and allowances

Being paid correctly - and on time - is a fundamental part of the employment contract. So when you need advice on pay rates, over-payments, under-payments, increments, allowances, overtime, classification, higher duties, penalty rates - the team from the MSC have the facts and will help you find out what you need to know.

Agreements, policy and legislation

Whether you're non-ongoing or permanent, part-time or full-time, employed under a contract or a enterprise agreement, the CPSU can help you better understand your employment arrangements and make sure you get what you bargained for.

Performance and career development

How do you keep your career on track in an ever-changing workplace? Part of the answer is having an expert team on your side - the CPSU. Whether it's promotions, performance appraisals or transfers, it pays to have someone experienced in your corner.

Procedural fairness

Now more than ever you need to be fully aware of the many of rules, regulations and policies that impact on your employment - like the APS Code of Conduct. If you're ever involved in an investigation, the MSC can provide no-nonsense advice, practical assistance and representation. A Code of Conduct investigation is a serious matter and you'll need professionals on your side.

Workers' compensation

Negotiating compensation matters isn't easy at the best of times, let alone when you're injured. CPSU's experienced organisers can help reduce your stress by providing personal advice on procedures, entitlements, claims and reviews, as well as helping you negotiate a return to work plan. Members also have access to our national legal providers, Slater and Gordon.

Health and safety

Unions have a proven track record when it comes to making workplaces safer. Today, the CPSU plays an active role in promoting healthy workplaces through training, policy development and enforcing existing standards. We provide accredited OHS training as well as news and information to support CPSU health and safety representatives in your workplace.

Superannuation

Retirement income is a major concern for many employees and the MSC can help point you in the right direction. We provide members with regular updates on superannuation and referrals to accredited financial advisors.
