Union members have been front and centre in shaping what happens at the bargaining table.

Thank you for participating in last week’s paid time meetings and for casting your vote! This was a big decision, and it’s great to see members weighing up the risks and options.

The CPSU wrote to the ABC to confirm that more than 62% of 300+ CPSU members who participated in the ballot voted to accept the revised offer:

  • A 3% pay rise from 1 October, with capacity to negotiate further
  • No protected industrial action for 6 months (down from the original proposal of 12 months)
  • A new safeguard: the ABC can’t put any agreement to a vote without union agreement

This is a decision by members to lock in a guaranteed increase while keeping open the opportunity to push for more through bargaining. And, if needed, consider taking action early next year.

What happens next?

There are two unions at the ABC, and for this deal to go ahead, both need to agree. CPSU members have voted in favour of the proposal, and we’ve informed MEAA of the outcome.

When we have an update from management, we will advise members.

Bargaining kicks off

Bargaining meetings begin this week.

The unions are working together in bargaining and have a combined union log of claims which CPSU members have overwhelmingly endorsed. Members can sign in to the website to download the endorsed log of claims.

You are CPSU

It was great to see members turning up to meetings, providing feedback, making suggestions, and getting involved. We were able to move the ABC significantly from their first offer because of our strength and the way members stood up and engaged.

If you are not yet a member, now is the time to join.
