Inadequate reward and recognition is an identified hazard in the Model Code of Practice: Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work.

The hazard may be present in your workplace if the following behaviours or culture is prevalent:

  • Workers receive unfair negative feedback, or insufficient feedback or recognition.
  • Distribution of recognition and rewards are inequitable, unfair or biased.
  • There are limited opportunities for workers to develop their skills.
  • Workers’ skills are not recognised.

The hierarchy of control offers strategies to ensure that employees are protected where it is not reasonably practicable to eliminate risks.
