Mould is often overlooked as a serious health hazard in the workplace. Mould can grow out of sight, making it hard to realise there is a problem. Sometimes it’s only when workers report ill health and investigations occur and mould is discovered.

Mould growth can often occur because of water leaks or spills and in other places where there is high humidity, poor ventilation or condensation. Mould can be present in equipment such as heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Mould growth is a common occurrence after significant weather events, such as flooding or other extreme changes in temperature and workplaces should be professionally assessed to ensure safety.
