Work demands are a serious health hazard and one of the most common sources of workplace stress and psychological harm.

Work demands are a serious work-related health hazard causing serious illness and injury to workers. When work demands are unrealistic or unreasonable, workers are far more likely to experience work related stress. Extreme or long-lasting stress is harmful and can lead to serious illness or injury to workers.

Your employer must implement work systems and procedures that effectively minimise the risk that work demands pose to workers’ psychological and physical health.

Employers must address the growing, serious threat that work demands pose to workers’ health. The CPSU is calling on all employers to improve working conditions and provide a better, safer system of work. Workers want safe workloads, safe staffing levels and safe job design to prevent illness and injury.
