Union Family Bereavement Benefit

The benefit consists of a payment of $1,000 to the immediate family for the purpose of assisting with expenses after a death. It applies to bereavements that occurred on or after 1 October 2009. Payment will be by electronic funds transfer.

The union family bereavement benefit applies to:

  • financial CPSU members who die while employed in a CPSU area of coverage
  • CPSU members who have been awarded life membership by Governing Council
  • CPSU members who die while on extended sick leave

The union family bereavement benefit does not apply to:

  • deceased former members who left the CPSU due to resignation, retirement, cancellation or redundancy
  • unfinancial members
  • associate members
