Not wowed by FWOW

The future way of working project (FWOW) has indicated that staff in Discovery House, Canberra will lose allocated desks following the building refurbishment.  Worryingly, the project team have also indicated that desks will only be provided for 90% of current staff numbers.  The CPSU supports allocated desks, and providing a desk for each member of staff as an essential resource to successfully do your job.

If you’d like to tell us what you think about FWOW, or get involved in our campaign on office accommodation issues, join your union here and get in touch with your organiser – Megan Baker-Goldsmith

Social media – important information

The CPSU is hosting a free information session for all interested staff on social media and your rights at work.  If you’ve ever wondered “can I post that?” Then you should come along to this useful information session.  Bring your lunch and a friend, all interested staff are welcome.

Thursday October 12 – NG F14 – George Townsend Room

Your union needs you

Nominations are now open for the role of union delegate in IP Australia.  A delegate is an elected, voluntary official of the union who represents the union in your workplace.  Union delegates are vital to the function of the union, and make sure that you have a vibrant, visible and active union at your workplace.  Delegates have additional rights under the Enterprise Agreement, get training, support and opportunities to network and negotiate at senior levels.  If you’d like to learn more about being a delegate, or would like to nominate please contact your local delegate and Section Secretary – George Hearder.

Bullying and harassment – mental health at work

The CPSU recently completed an employee-led audit on the mental wellbeing of APS workplaces.  We learned that only 50.5% of staff surveyed feel that their employer makes an effort to prevent harassment, bullying, discrimination, violence or stigma.  We believe you deserve a safe workplace, free from harassment and bullying.

If you think you’ve been bullied or harassed – or have witnessed these things in your workplace, don’t be silent on the issue.  Get the support of your union by joining here, talking to your local delegate or your Member Service Centre on 1300 137 636.  Everyone deserves a safe and mentally healthy workplace.

A Fact sheet on your rights at work with respect to bullying and harassment is available for members here.  Not a member yet? join here now.
