Over the last three and half weeks, we have been discussing the ABC proposed one-year offer. Today we met with ABC management to talk about your claims and the things you said you would like to see in your new staff agreement regardless of whether it is a one or three year deal.
Important changes members are seeking include:
- Genuine opportunities for all ABC casual and contract staff to secure ongoing employment not just the right to request it
- A better process for voluntary redundancies so staff don’t have to compete against one another to keep their jobs
- Making sure staff have a fair chance to apply for job opportunities
We have asked management to agree to a schedule for your claims to be considered. We are concerned that ABC management have not provided that commitment given that all discussion to date has been focused on the ABC’s one-year offer.
Under bargaining laws, all parties are required to give genuine consideration to the claims and positions of the other parties, and reasons for their responses to other parties’ proposals. We have asked ABC management to get back to us on Monday.
Tomorrow union members will be asked to ‘formally’ endorse your log of claims.
