The year ahead in ACIC

As the year wraps up there are just a few things we’d like let you know before the year closes. There are plenty more changes coming and as always we want to make sure our members’ interests are protected.

The year ahead

There are two significant changes in the workplace coming next year and the CPSU and your delegates will continue to advocate for your interests. These changes are;

  1. DSU review: Following ACICs decision to move towards an agency-wide approach to human resources, the CPSU will be holding paid time meetings in the New Year to seek your feedback about how this will affect your work and how ACIC can best manage the transition.
  2. COSA: ACIC will be implementing its continuing internal security protocols next year, and your workplace delegates have concerns about its potential impact on members. The CPSU will be meeting with management in early January to discuss the concerns we may have. If you have any feedback please email CPSUBorders@CPSU.org.au

Members concerns on recruitment addressed – but where’s the detail?

Members raised real concerns around the recruitment practices at ACIC. The CPSU started investigating and this prompted ACIC to put in place a recruitment freeze for the month of September and draft a new policy.

The policy on Recruitment and Selection processes has been released for consultation and the CPSU will be providing their feedback as soon as ACIC provides us a copy.

Of those surveyed by the CPSU more than half of respondents believed ACIC had some way to go towards a transparent and merit based recruitment culture. Two thirds didn’t believe ACIC was providing reasonable career development. Members also provided constructive ideas for improvements, which we will present to management.

A special mention

Former Victorian Delegate Felix Mills worked tirelessly for almost five years advocating on behalf of members. Felix worked quietly and methodically ensuring members’ rights and entitlements were protected.  He’ll be sorely missed and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
